Apple Lodge Music2008 Dates and ArtistsHere is a list of artists who regularly entertain our guests: • Jim McPadden will be back entertaining with us this year. He is a popular favorite of both the young kids at the orchard for the first time as well as the old faithfuls enjoying the pie and ice cream. • Rudy Witthus is 92 years old. He played many dates at the orchard in 2004 and for two decades previously. He was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame and the World Concertina Congress Hall of Fame in 2005. Rudy visits the orchard frequently, but isn't up to playing right now (or else it went to his head, now that he's a big star, and he's too good for us anymore). Rudy has been entertaining guests at Minnesota Harvest since the mid-1980's. Not just on weekends, but on weekdays, too, in August, September, and October. Tens of thousands of orchard visitors annually have enjoyed Rudy's personal, elegant style while shopping, eating lunch, or having coffee and an apple bakery dessert. Like Leonard Flicek, Harold Krueger, and Jim McPadden, his audiences have varied from a handful to hundreds at a time and several thousand in a day as he entertained in the Apple Lodge for hours. His playing has represented, with excellence, the rich concertina heritage in our area and has provided Minnesota Harvest Orchard with an atmosphere and character that has made it one of Minnesota's special places for decades. • Harold Krueger has made eight recordings, all of which are available for sale at the orchard. Most are on cassette tape, and his cd includes two cassettes. He is a master, and his recordings are among the best there is. |
