Dolgo Crab
Here is a letter we received this year (2005) discussing our Dolgo Crab apples.
Dear Minnesota Harvest:
Thanks for your quick response to send the Dolgo apples. They arrived via UPS in perfect condition, and Saturday I taught my daughter-in-law and granddaughter (11 years old) to make red crabapple jelly. We got 48 one-cup jars from the 15 pounds of apples sent me. I drove four hours to Dubuque, Iowa to make jelly from your wonderful apples. What a delightful day we had. Thanks for helping to make it possible.

Topper says:
It's so great to be part of what you did. It sounds like you had a rewarding time together! Not everyone has a grandma who is able to pass along the know-how for something that has been an annual event for hundreds of years. I commend you for doing that and hope that the two generations continue the tradition for many more years.
Dolgo Crab does produce the finest red crabapple jelly, and I'm sure there are folks who would love to try making some. Would you consider explaining the process, recipe, and helpful hints so we could post it here on the website?
(Anyone interested should note that Dolgo Crab is available from about August 15 to about September 15 each year, so you should plan to make your jelly in that time period. They're not expensive. I believe we have the largest planting of Dolgo crab in the world at Minnesota Harvest.)
